- The Hamilton PAL Field Hockey Program is a 5 week program designed to introduce the sport of field hockey to girls in grades 4 through 9. This year, the program will be held at Steinert High School on Tuesday evenings, beginning July 1st and ending July 29th. The program will run from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.
- Participants will be introduced to field hockey and learn the basics of the game. They will participate in approximately 45 minutes of skill training and 45 minutes of game play based on the skills learned. Many of our past participants have gone on to play at the collegiate level including such schools as Rutgers, Montclair, William Paterson, Kean, Shippensburg, TCNJ and the University of Delaware. Last season, Steinert’s own Kristy Cady was selected defensive player of the year by the local newspapers. Steinert also won their conference and a state sectional championship in 2007. All of these players began their field hockey career through the PAL program.
- The program is run by Alyson Setzer, varsity field hockey coach at Steinert High School. Varsity level players from each of Hamilton Township’s three high schools also assist with the instruction.
- The cost for the program is minimal. The fee for each participant is $45.00. Each player will receive a t-shirt (to keep), a mouth guard, and a stick and ball to use during the program. The stick and ball must be returned at the end of the program. Participants are expected to wear sneakers, turf shoes or soccer cleats and have their own shin guards. They should also bring water to drink during breaks.
